A. Hauri of Reinach Antique Single-Shot Hunting Rifle 9.3×53R — Rare Swiss Conversion Rifle

Peabody-Martini Action — Double Set Trigger — Mirror Bore — Octagonal Barrel

Description

Here is a rare and historically interesting antique rifle from the bench of A. Hauri of Reinach, Canton Aargau — a Swiss gunmaker active from approximately 1860 to 1880. This piece began life as a match rifle chambered in 10.4×38R Vetterli and was professionally converted in the 1920s to a hunting rifle in 9.3×53R, a capable medium-bore cartridge well-suited to European game. The conversion is thoughtfully executed and the rifle retains excellent function throughout. Brass for the 9.3×53R can be formed and trimmed from 7.62×54R cases. An uncommon piece of Swiss gunmaking history ready for the collector or the field.

Action & Metalwork

Peabody-Martini falling-block single-shot action with fine double set triggers and a crisp, positive lockup. Metal finish retains good blue throughout with honest patina on the buttplate and lever — appropriate and attractive on a piece of this age.

Barrel

27⅛" barrel, rear portion octagonal, with an integrated dovetail rail and adjustable rear sight. Bore is mirror bright throughout — an outstanding bore for a rifle of this vintage.

Stock

Walnut stock in nice condition with only a few light handling marks consistent with careful use. No cracks or repairs noted.
